BEHIND THE BOOKS
About Ryan
I write slice-of-life stories about people trying to figure themselves out, often while making a mess of things along the way.
My books explore identity, memory, loneliness, and the ways our pasts have a habit of showing up in the present. I'm drawn to ordinary people navigating complicated feelings, the small moments that change everything, and the humor that sometimes shows up where it has no business being.
Music has always been a big part of how I experience the world, and it inevitably finds its way into my writing. My debut novel, Nimrod, was published by Earth Island Books in 2022, followed by my second novel, Thing of the Past.
I've always been more interested in the worlds people carry inside them than the extraordinary things happening around them.
